Pollution Crisis in Urban Areas

Pollution is a very serious issue of twenty-first century modern World. In simple terms, contamination of nature is called pollution that causes adverse effects. Air, water, noise and soil pollutions are typical types of pollution. However, urban areas are much developed than rural areas with high class modern facilities; and ironically, urban areas are also bears high level of Pollution.

The main causes of pollutants in urban areas are transportation technologies such as automobiles, power production technologies such as industrial heating and cooling, coal burning power plants like Badarpur Thermal Power Station (BTPS), Badarpur, Delhi and poor waste management, etc. The industrial revolution which began from Britain in 18th centaury putting a major impact on urban pollution by waste materials from industries like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, particulate matters (PM10 /PM2.5), chlorofluorocarbons, hydrocarbons, organohalides and other chemical compounds, lead, mercury, arsenic, copper, herbicides, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, etc. all these increasing the level of pollution in urban areas.

On other hand, huge deforestation in urban areas for new infrastructure, break down natural pollution controlling mechanism of Nature. Urban peoples have a number of health related problems like respiratory diseases, cardiovascular disease, throat inflammation, congestion, etc. than rural peoples because of higher levels of pollution. In an article of “The Guardian”, “Global pollution kills 9 million peoples every year”, this warns the crisis. Now, human societies need to do recycling, reusing, waste minimisation, plantations, etc. methods to reduce pollution, to survive and give a safe World to upcoming generations.
